City Council Approves Controversial Tax Break

The Worcester City Council voted Tuesday night to approve a tax break for The Menkiti Group, a development firm planning to convert an office building at 401–409 Main St. into 48 market-rate apartments. Five of the units would be designated for households earning 60% or less of the area median income.

The decision came despite opposition from residents and labor advocates who argued the company previously violated the city’s responsible development ordinance. The vote revealed a divided council, with several members raising concerns about accountability and precedent as Worcester continues to grapple with housing affordability and downtown redevelopment.

Police Seek ‘Armed and Dangerous’ Shooting Suspect

Worcester police are asking for the public’s help locating Xabiel Feliciano, 30, who is wanted in connection with a triple shooting at Guertin’s Cafe on Grand Street on Dec. 29, 2025.

Authorities say two victims were found at the scene with gunshot wounds, and a third later arrived at a hospital. All survived. Police report multiple firearms were used and have not been recovered. Feliciano faces several firearm-related charges and is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Worcester Police Department.

Holy Cross Hosts Patriot League Semifinal

On the sports front, the College of the Holy Cross hosted Army in the Patriot League women’s basketball semifinals Thursday night at the Hart Center. The Crusaders entered the matchup riding a strong defensive stretch, allowing an average of 45 points over their previous five games.
