Worcester Daily Local Headlines
Worcester, MA – February 25, 2026 – Blizzard cleanup rolls on after record snow as City Hall resumes meetings, schools reset, and buses run snow routes.
Top local headlines
1) Dig-out continues after the blizzard
Worcester crews were still widening lanes and tackling heavy, icy snow on Tuesday and Wednesday as residents shoveled out and tried to get back to normal routines. City leaders urged patience and asked people to stay off the roads when possible so plows and sanders can keep moving.
At DPW operations, trucks were seen mixing salt and sand for continued treatment as temperatures and lingering slick spots complicated cleanup.
2) City services: closures, meetings, and the parking ban
Municipal buildings stayed closed during normal business hours on Tuesday, Feb. 24, as the winter weather emergency remained in effect. City Hall reopened in the evening for the scheduled City Council meeting, while several other public meetings shifted online or were canceled.
The declared parking ban also continued, with reminders that clearing curb space is one of the biggest factors in how quickly streets become fully passable.
3) Worcester Public Schools: a second snow day
After Monday’s storm, Worcester Public Schools also remained closed Tuesday, Feb. 24, to give road and sidewalk crews more time to clear and treat routes. Head Start, preschool, and afterschool programs were also canceled for the day.
4) Transit riders: snow routes and limited detours
The Worcester Regional Transit Authority operated snow routes early Tuesday, Feb. 24, and posted detours as conditions changed. Riders were advised to expect slower trips and occasional stop changes, including temporarily limited service to Washington Heights on Route 7.
