Anchorage gas and diesel dip slightly, but stay far above U.S. averages
Anchorage AK Gas & Diesel Watch – Regular gas and diesel eased a bit in AAA’s latest check, but both remain well above U.S. averages for now.
Anchorage drivers saw a small dip at the pump in AAA’s latest check dated May 31, 2026. Regular gas in the Anchorage metro averaged $5.204 a gallon, down 0.7 cent from yesterday and 3.4 cents from a week ago. Diesel averaged $5.806, also down 0.7 cent from yesterday and 5.4 cents from a week ago.
Regular gas: still expensive after the latest pullback
Even with the small daily and weekly decline, regular gas is still 28.4 cents higher than a month ago and $1.621 above a year ago. That keeps the cost pressure real for commuters, parents running errands, weekend travelers, and anyone who fills up often.
Diesel: a slightly different month-to-month picture
Diesel is moving differently over the longer run. It is 15.6 cents lower than a month ago, but it is still $2.185 higher than a year ago. That matters most for contractors, delivery drivers, fleet operators, restaurants, and small businesses that depend on work trucks and service vehicles.
How Anchorage stacks up
Anchorage regular gas remains above the U.S. average of $4.336, and Anchorage diesel is above the national diesel average of $5.475. The metro is near Alaska’s statewide average on regular gas and slightly above it on diesel, which means Anchorage is still paying a local premium even after the latest easing.
For households and businesses, this looks more like a modest reprieve than a reset. Fuel is still a meaningful line item in weekly budgets, route planning, and job costs. If you are filling up around Anchorage, share the highest and lowest pump prices you are seeing so other readers can compare notes.
