Anchorage fuel prices keep climbing as regular rises and diesel stays high
Anchorage AK Gas & Diesel Watch: regular gas is up again to $4.991, while diesel holds near $6 at $5.963 and stays above last week.
Anchorage drivers got another higher regular-gas average on May 1, while diesel stayed stubbornly close to $6 a gallon. AAA’s latest Anchorage metro check puts regular unleaded at $4.991 and diesel at $5.963.
Regular gas is making the sharper move. It is up 7.1 cents from yesterday and 32.8 cents from a week ago. It is also higher than a month ago and well above the same day last year. For commuters and households that fill up every few days, that adds up fast.
Diesel barely moved day to day — up just a tenth of a cent from yesterday — but it remains elevated and still above last week. At $5.963, Anchorage diesel is still hovering just below the $6 mark, which matters most for contractors, delivery fleets, service trucks, restaurants, and other businesses running work vehicles on tight fuel budgets.
The local averages also sit above the broader benchmarks. AAA shows Alaska at $4.987 for regular and $5.941 for diesel, while the U.S. average is $4.392 for regular and $5.572 for diesel. That keeps Anchorage above both the state and national levels, especially on regular gas.
For residents, the practical takeaway is simple: small changes still matter when the starting point is already high. Weekend trips, airport runs, school drop-offs, delivery routes, and service calls all get more expensive when regular keeps climbing and diesel stays pinned near $6.
