Anchorage gas prices keep climbing while diesel stays near $6 on May 7
Anchorage AK Gas & Diesel Watch – Regular gas moved higher again on May 7, while diesel eased a penny but stayed near $6, keeping pressure on commuters and fleets.
Anchorage drivers got a split signal in AAA’s May 7 fuel check: regular gas moved higher again, while diesel slipped a penny but stayed parked close to $6 a gallon. For anyone who fills up every few days, the bigger story is that the pressure at the pump is still there.
Regular gas keeps climbing
AAA put Anchorage regular unleaded at $5.207 a gallon on May 7, up 3.2 cents from May 6 and 28.7 cents from a week earlier. That is not a small bump for commuters, especially for households already stretching each tank across school runs, errands, and work trips. Regular gas is also up 60.1 cents from a month ago and about $1.68 above where it was a year ago, a reminder that this is more than a one-day swing.
Diesel eases, but stays near $6
Diesel moved differently. Anchorage diesel was $5.950 a gallon, down 1 cent from May 6 and essentially flat versus last week. Even so, it remains close enough to $6 to keep trucking, construction, delivery, and service fleets under pressure. A penny lower does not change the fact that fuel-dependent businesses are still paying a steep price to keep routes moving, materials delivered, and crews on schedule.
Anchorage is still paying a premium
Anchorage is also still paying more than the country as a whole. AAA’s national average on May 7 was $4.558 for regular gas and $5.674 for diesel. That leaves Anchorage about 65 cents above the U.S. average on regular fuel and roughly 28 cents higher on diesel. For a family filling a larger tank once or twice a week, that premium adds up quickly. For contractors, restaurants that depend on deliveries, and small service businesses that drive between jobs, the higher diesel bill can show up in operating costs before it shows up anywhere else.
Weekend travelers and anyone planning extra mileage should expect the usual tradeoff: fewer unnecessary trips, tighter fuel budgeting, and a bigger focus on where the cheapest pumps are. If you are driving Anchorage’s roads this week, what are you seeing at the stations near you — highest price and lowest price both welcome.
