Arlington-Area Gas Eases to $3.555; Diesel Holds at $5.110

Regular gasoline and diesel both declined from the previous day in the Fort Worth-Arlington metro, but the two fuels continued to show very different longer-term trends on Saturday, Aug. 1.

AAA listed the metro average at $3.555 per gallon for regular gasoline, down 2.7 cents from the previous day. Diesel averaged $5.110 per gallon, down 1.5 cents from the prior day.

Regular gas is lower than last week but higher than a month ago

The Fort Worth-Arlington regular-gas average was 17.1 cents lower than a week earlier. It was also 29.6 cents higher than a month earlier and 69.5 cents higher than a year earlier.

For Arlington commuters and households, that creates a mixed picture: gasoline costs have eased over the past week, but the Aug. 1 average remained above the levels recorded one month and one year earlier.

Diesel’s longer-term trend remains higher

Diesel moved down 1.5 cents from the previous day, but its longer-term comparisons were higher. The metro average was 16.1 cents above the week-ago figure, 82.7 cents above the month-ago figure and $1.753 higher than a year earlier.

That pattern matters most to trucking operations, delivery fleets, contractors, landscapers and service businesses that refuel diesel vehicles or equipment. Restaurants and other businesses that depend on frequent deliveries may also want to watch transportation costs, although the price data does not document specific local business reactions.

Arlington pump prices can differ from the metro average

The AAA figure is a Fort Worth-Arlington metro average, not a citywide price at every Arlington station. An Arlington station-price listing dated July 31 showed regular gas at $3.72 per gallon at Murphy USA. The same listing showed Walmart at $3.72 and other listed chains ranging from $3.75 to $3.82.

Those station listings are individual pump prices, not an Arlington-wide average. Drivers should compare nearby stations before filling up, especially when a small difference is multiplied across a large tank or frequent weekly trips.

For commuters, weekend travelers and households, regular gasoline is the more immediate price to watch. For contractors, delivery drivers, truck operators and diesel-heavy service businesses, the larger month-to-month and year-to-year diesel increases remain the more significant cost concern.
