Arlington Begins Construction on East Arlington Water Tower
Arlington Water Utilities has begun construction on a 2.5-million-gallon elevated water storage tank in East Arlington, adding a major piece of storage infrastructure intended to improve distribution pressure and strengthen the city’s reserves during high-demand and emergency conditions.
The City of Arlington announced the project on July 20, 2026. Construction had already started on city-owned land at 2001 New York Ave., just east of the East Arlington Police Services Center along the International Corridor.
The project is expected to remain under construction for more than a year. The city’s current target is to erect the tank’s pedestal and steel bowl by early 2027 and finish construction by late 2027.
What is being built
The project is an elevated water-storage facility, not a new water-treatment plant. The 2.5-million-gallon tank will become part of Arlington’s treated-water distribution system after construction is complete.
Arlington Water Utilities says the additional elevated storage is intended to help maintain pressure as water moves through the system. The project is also designed to help the city meet storage requirements set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The planned reserve would give the utility more stored water for periods of peak demand, as well as for fires and other emergencies. The city’s announcement describes those as intended system benefits; it does not state that the new tank is already operating.
How the project fits the existing system
Arlington Water Utilities treats and distributes about 19 billion gallons of water each year. The utility can produce as much as 100 million gallons of treated water per day.
The city currently has 10 water towers, with capacities ranging from 1 million to 2.5 million gallons. The new tank will add another 2.5 million gallons of elevated storage once it is completed and incorporated into the system.
That distinction matters for residents and businesses in East Arlington. The project is not creating a new source of treated water. Instead, it is expanding the amount of treated water that can be held in an elevated facility and used to support pressure, demand and emergency reserves across the distribution network.
Construction schedule and contractor
Landmark Structures, a contractor headquartered in Southlake, is handling the construction. The first major milestone identified by the city is the erection of the pedestal and steel bowl in early 2027.
The city expects full construction to be finished by late 2027, but its announcement does not provide a precise final completion date. It also does not state the project’s total cost.
For East Arlington, the immediate change is the start of work at the New York Avenue site. The broader local consequence is expected after construction: a larger elevated-storage system designed to support water pressure and provide additional backup capacity during peak use, fires and other emergencies.
The next known construction milestone is the planned early-2027 erection of the pedestal and steel bowl. Arlington’s broader completion target remains late 2027.
