Front Street between Monroe Avenue and Union Avenue in downtown Memphis is scheduled for major lane impacts starting Wednesday, July 8, 2026, according to the Memphis Police Department. MPD says the northbound and southbound lanes on that segment will be closed through December 1, 2026 due to construction.

Detour routes (MPD-published)
- Northbound: Use Union Avenue to S. B. B. King Boulevard, then take Monroe Avenue back to Front Street.
- Southbound: Use Monroe Avenue to S. 2nd Street, then take Union Avenue back to Front Street.
What the City says the streetscape work will do
The City of Memphis says the Front Street Improvement Project is designed to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility, including:
- Reducing Front Street from four lanes to three
- Cur b bump-outs
- ADA-accessible curb ramps
- Enhancing sidewalks and adding landscaping

The City says additional phased closures are anticipated during these windows:
- Riverside Drive / Monroe Avenue intersection: July 13–Sept. 18
- Front Street / Monroe Avenue intersection: July 23–Sept. 25
- Front Street / Union Avenue intersection: Sept. 26–Nov. 4
