Iditarod Finish, Industry Summit and Community Events Lead Anchorage Headlines
Anchorage, AK – March 19, 2026 – Iditarod wraps up, industry leaders meet downtown, and local libraries and sports events fill the week.
Anchorage is closing out a busy week with a mix of statewide milestones, downtown conferences and neighborhood events.
Iditarod 2026 Comes to a Close
The 2026 Iditarod officially wrapped up Tuesday, March 17, when defending champion Jessie Holmes reached Nome in just over nine days. The race began with its ceremonial start in Anchorage earlier this month, drawing crowds downtown and along the traditional route.
This year’s finish marks another strong showing for Alaska’s most famous sled dog race, which continues to bring national attention and visitors to Anchorage each March.
‘Meet Alaska 2026’ Takes Over Downtown
Industry leaders gathered Thursday, March 19, at the Hotel Captain Cook for Meet Alaska 2026, a major resource development and infrastructure conference. The event focuses on oil, gas, mining, transportation systems and Alaska’s role in emerging sectors like data and AI infrastructure.
Organizers say the annual summit is designed to connect business leaders, policymakers and community stakeholders as the state looks ahead to the 2026 election season and long-term economic planning.
Community Calendar: Libraries and State Basketball
Closer to home, Anchorage Public Library branches are hosting youth programming this week, including a special Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility storytime on March 18 and a family game night Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, high school athletes are competing in the ASAA state basketball championships at the Alaska Airlines Center. Several divisions tipped off March 18 and continue through the weekend, bringing teams and fans from across Alaska into Anchorage hotels and restaurants.
Together, the week’s events highlight Anchorage’s role as both Alaska’s cultural hub and its gathering place for business, sports and community life.
