Shreveport-Bossier Gas Falls to $3.642 While Diesel Rises Above $5

Regular gasoline fell to $3.642 per gallon in the Shreveport-Bossier City metro on August 1, while diesel moved slightly higher to $5.024, according to AAA’s latest Louisiana fuel-price check.

The split movement gives gasoline buyers some short-term relief, but diesel remains above $5 per gallon. Both fuels are also substantially more expensive than they were one month and one year ago.

Regular gas eases again

AAA listed the metro regular-gas average at $3.642 per gallon on August 1. That was 1.4 cents lower than the previous day and 7.7 cents below the average from one week earlier.

The longer-term comparisons remain less favorable. Regular gasoline was up 24.1 cents from one month earlier and 89.2 cents from the same point last year. For commuters and households, the recent weekly decline may reduce the cost of a fill-up modestly, but the annual difference can still affect transportation budgets.

Diesel remains above $5

Diesel averaged $5.024 per gallon in the Shreveport-Bossier City metro. The price rose 0.8 cents from the previous day but was down 1 cent from a week earlier, so the daily increase did not represent a broader weekly rise.

Diesel costs were up 79.1 cents from one month earlier and $1.598 from one year earlier. That keeps fuel costs important for trucking and delivery operators, contractors, farmers, landscapers and service businesses that use diesel-powered vehicles or equipment. Restaurants and other businesses may also feel pressure indirectly through delivery and operating costs.

National context and local pump differences

For broader context, the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s July 28 weekly update listed the national averages as of July 27 at $4.096 for regular gasoline and $5.313 for on-highway diesel. Those figures are national benchmarks, not August 1 prices for Shreveport.

The AAA figures are metro averages, not guaranteed prices at every station inside Shreveport or Bossier City. Individual prices can vary by station and neighborhood, so drivers may find a pump price that is meaningfully higher or lower than the metro figure. For residents, the latest numbers point to modest short-term relief for gasoline users alongside continued cost pressure for workers and businesses that depend on diesel.
