Nevada lawmaker asks auditors to investigate whether licensing board gave firearms credentials to felons

Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui has asked Nevada’s legislative auditor to investigate whether the Private Investigators Licensing Board issued security-guard or private-investigator credentials to people with felony convictions, raising questions about firearms-related licensing and oversight of a state regulator.

The request, reported July 14, 2026, is the latest development. It does not establish that the board unlawfully licensed anyone, that a person with a felony conviction received permission to carry a firearm, or that the board violated state law.

Jauregui’s request followed allegations that the board may have issued credentials to people whose records included felony convictions. The concern involves the Nevada agency that regulates private investigators and security guards, according to the approved report describing the request.

The Nevada Legislature’s official calendar lists 2025-2026 interim oversight and audit meetings, including meetings of the Legislative Commission’s Audit Subcommittee. That calendar is the official venue for tracking any subsequent audit action or hearing related to the request.
