Arlington Daily Briefing: Library Grant, Vietnam Exhibit, Supercross Weekend
Arlington, TX – February 18, 2026 – Library wins early literacy grant, UTA spotlights Vietnam War reporting, and AT&T Stadium gears up for Supercross.
Arlington, TX readers have a mix of education, history, and high-octane sports on tap this week.
Library lands grant to boost early literacy
The Arlington Public Library has been named a recipient of a statewide summer programming grant funded through a large grocery checkout campaign. The award is part of nearly $300,000 distributed to Texas libraries to support reading and enrichment programs for children and families.
Local officials say the funding will help expand summer learning activities and early literacy efforts, including programs that encourage parents to read regularly with their young children. The support comes as libraries across the state look for ways to keep kids engaged and learning when school is out.
‘Our Man in Vietnam’ exhibit opens window into wartime reporting
At the University of Texas at Arlington, a new exhibit titled ‘Our Man in Vietnam’ is now open to the public in the campus library’s Special Collections. The display centers on the work of longtime Texas journalist Bob Schieffer, who reported from Vietnam in the 1960s.
The exhibit features photographs, letters, notebooks, paintings, and other materials from Schieffer’s time covering the war. Curators describe it as an opportunity for North Texans to better understand the experiences of soldiers and correspondents during a pivotal chapter in U.S. history. The collection was recently donated to the university and is expected to draw students, veterans, and local residents through the spring.
AT&T Stadium prepares for Supercross showdown
Motorsports fans are getting ready for the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship stop at AT&T Stadium this Saturday, February 21. Arlington will host Round 7 of the season and the opening event of the 250SX East Division.
The event will bring many of the sport’s top riders to town, including the anticipated return of Jo Shimoda after a serious neck and back injury last fall. A pre-entry list released this morning highlights deep fields across factory teams, setting up what organizers expect to be one of the more competitive rounds of the year.
Fans can also take part in an outdoor fan festival before the main program, with access to team rigs, practice sessions, and family-friendly activities around the stadium.
