Grand Prix Funding, Child Shooting Investigation and City Council Updates Lead Arlington Headlines
Arlington, TX – March 12, 2026 – City leaders prep for Grand Prix funding, police probe child shooting, and council tackles key agenda items.
It is shaping up to be a busy week in Arlington, with major event planning, a serious police investigation and routine city business all making headlines.
Grand Prix Brings Big Crowds, Big Costs
The inaugural Java House Grand Prix of Arlington races into the Entertainment District this weekend, with streets already transforming around AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field.
City officials confirmed Arlington will use roughly $5.5 million from the state’s Major Events Reimbursement Program to help cover public safety, traffic control and other event-related costs. The city is also contributing about $1.2 million of its own funds.
Races run Friday through Sunday, accompanied by concerts and fan events expected to draw visitors from across North Texas and beyond.
6-Year-Old Shot Inside Arlington Home
Arlington police are investigating after a 6-year-old was shot in the leg when a bullet traveled through the top floor of a home earlier this week.
According to reports, the child was inside the residence when the round entered from above. The injury was not believed to be life-threatening, but the incident has raised renewed concerns about gun safety and stray gunfire in residential areas.
Authorities are working to determine where the shot originated and whether any criminal charges will be filed.
City Council Holds March 10 Meeting
The Arlington City Council met Tuesday for its regular afternoon work session and evening meeting at City Hall.
Items on the agenda included updates on city operations and upcoming initiatives. Residents who were unable to attend in person can view recordings through the city’s broadcast channels.
With a high-profile event arriving and ongoing public safety concerns, city leaders are balancing everyday governance with the demands of a rapidly growing entertainment hub.
