Killeen says five residents were transported to a hospital after firefighters responded Oct. 19 to a fire at an eight-unit apartment building at 4402 Lake Road. The cause remains under investigation.
The city said crews were dispatched at about 12:35 p.m. and residents had evacuated before firefighters searched all eight apartments. The response included 15 apparatus and 37 personnel, according to the city. A police officer was treated for smoke inhalation, and a firefighter for knee pain, the city said.
Accounts differ on what happened to the five residents. KXXV also reported five hospital transports, while KWTX said two residents were transported and three were treated at the scene and released. The reports therefore do not establish a consistent treatment breakdown.
The city said it contacted the American Red Cross to assist displaced residents. It did not give a count of those displaced or say whether assistance was ultimately provided.
